A mighty fortune! Establishing a lab is incredibly expensive, due largely to ridiculous prices on even rudimentary equipment. And, because the equipment was bought for ludicrous prices, even the second-hand market tends to be pretty expensive.

Establishing a lab on the cheap is difficult. I know because I’m trying. I wish the LA team the best of luck!
