DIYbio events for the week of March 13

Here are your DIYbio events for the week.  On Sunday, Bethesda has a booth in Reston showing cheek cell DNA extraction and a brain-to-computer interface, Oakland has their Biohacking Academy Lab, and continues with their Open Insulin project. On Monday, Austin has hands on synthetic biology,  Cambridge has several teams pitching for OpenPlant fund grants, and Sunnyvale continues their work on  a surface plasmon resonance salinity detector.  On Tuesday, Amsterdam continues work on several interesting projects, Austin has a biohacker meetup and a panel discussion that includes biotech perspectives to the cannibus industry, Brooklyn has an introductory course to CRISPR/CAS9, Cambridge has Rebecca Batorsky speaking on mitochondrial variants, Madrid has a lab-on-a-chip conference (microfluidics), and Vancouver has a mead pouring where you can learn about the process of making honey wine.  On Wednesday Madrid continues its lab-on-a-chip conference, Oakland continues their fun fermentations, Sunnyvale continues its work on a fluorescence microscope, and Vancouver has an open lab night featuring a historical and philosophical discussion of immunology and contemporary medicine.  On Thursday, Boston has a conference on tissue engineering, biofabrication, and 3-D bioprinting, Denver will do some PCR work and have artist Daisy Patton talk about her bacterial photography experiments, Oakland starts another round of their biohacking bootcamp, San Diego has Dr. Cassianno Carromeu talking about the use of pluripotent stem cells in the study of neurological disorders, and San Francisco has a panel of a new cohort of food and biomaterials companies.  On Friday, Boston continues its tissue engineering, biofabrication, and 3-D bioprinting conference, North York continues video lectures on Understanding Genetics: DNA, Genes, and their Real-World Applications, Vancouver has a workshop on restriction enzymes, and Washington, DC has a lecture on genetically modified livestock.  On Saturday, Albany has a discussion “What is DIYbio and What Can I Do With It?”, Charlottesville has a cloning workshop, Minneapolis will be building Electroencephalographs using Arduino microcontrollers, Oakland continues its evolved bacterial sunscreen project, San Diego has a green fluorescent protein transformation workshop, and Seattle has a workshop on the science of lotions, led by Dr Reitha Weeks.

Here are your DIYbio events for the week.  On Sunday, Brooklyn has its Biotechnology Crash Course, and Oakland continues work on Open Insulin.  On Monday, San Francisco has micropitches, London has a biodesign conference, and Vancouver discusses democratized science, including some biology topics.  On Tuesday Brooklyn has an introductory workshop on CRISPR/ CAS9, a prerequisite to a full hands-on lab course coming soon.   On Wednesday, Chicago has a social featuring Dr Heather Wheeler, discussing genomic prediction of complex traits, and Montreal has their March meeting, featuring various talks on bioinformatics.  On Thursday, Cambridge meets to discuss their the building of a new makespace.  On Friday, Austin has a booth at SXSW Create, and Baltimore has a lightning talk competition with the audience as judges.  On Saturday, Austin has  CRISPR/CAS9 and Collaborative Biohacking presentations, Cambridge invites you to help demonstrate open hardware at the Cambridge Science Festival, Charlottesville has a kids workshop on marine microbes, and Seattle has a full day workshop on Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials worth some college credits.

Here are your DIYbio events for the remainder of the week.  On Monday, Oakland has an evening of Science and Art, Sunnyvale continues work on their florescence microscope.  On Tuesday, Amsterdam works on their projects, San Diego meets in La Jolla for a lecture on the function of  sleep, and  Somerville has Larry Gilbertson, a lead scientist at Monsanto, leading a discussion of a paper about using environmental RNAi technology on herbivorous insects.  On Wednesday, Charlottesville has a discussion of the Zika virus and Vancouver continues discussions on how genes express proteins.  On Thursday, Brooklyn hosts a KNow science lecture by Natalie Freund, who will discuss her work as an HIV scientist and the future of HIV research and treatment, Cambridge has a talk by Dr Guy-Bart Stan on synthetic biology design and conrol, Denver discusses optogenetics for iGEM projects, and Sunnyvale hosts a 3-D printer design to print talk.  On Saturday, Oakland continues its work on a biologically evolved sunscreen
