DIYbio events for the week of September 18

Here are your DIYbio events for the week.

On Sunday, Oakland continues with their Open Insulin project.

On Monday, Cambridge has two algae talks, including Moritz Meyer introducing his work on re-engineering photosynthesis, and Paolo Bombelli talking about using algae to harness energy in biophotovoltaic devices, and spreading ideas through the Big Algal Open ExperimentOakland continues their work on using synthetic biology to make real cheese from yeast, or Real Vegan Cheese. Oslo has a workshop on sequence alignment tools, and Tel Aviv has a talk on intellectual property protection by Jeremy Rutman

On Tuesday, Amsterdam begins their four week cycle of collaborative projects, Cambridge has John Staropoli talking about the investigation of an oligonucleotide for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, and Nicolo Fusi talking about the use of machine learning for CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing.  New York has Ellen Jogensen sharing her experiences on how to start, fund and mentor an iGEM team, Sunnyvale continues on their Quantum Salinity Detector project, and Toronto has an Open House.

On Wednesday, Oakland furthers their fun fermentations and continues their Open Insulin project, Seattle has a microfluidics discussion Sunnyvale continues their fluorescence microscope project, and Toronto has a hands on CRISPR workshop, and a talk on harnessing the power of CRISPR.

On ThursdayBaltimore has a workshop on PCR and primer design, Carlsbad has an open house for a biotech contract manufacturer, Hong Kong has Scott Edmunds sharing about the Bauhinia Genome project , and New York has Carin Bondar talking about the science behind mating.  Oakland and SSunnyvale continue to collaborate on their bioprinter project

On Friday, North York has Keith Beech talking about the application of sophisticated mathematics to biology.  Oakland and Sunnyvale will be at a  3-day biohacking conference, featuring many of our heroes in the biohack community.

Finally, on Saturday, Amsterdam starts a two-day exhibition by Agi Haines where the anatomy lesson of the future will be explored with the sculptures. A special artist talk will take place to discuss medical futures. Denver will have a hands-on CRISPR/Cas9 workshop.

DIYbio events for the remainder of the week of September 11

Here are your DIYbio events for the remainder of the week.

On Monday Brooklyn begins their Biohacker Boot Camp series, as well their CRISPR/CAS9 course (a prerequisite for hands on lab work) taught by Oliver Medvedik and Ellen Jorgensen, while Tel Aviv has Abba Priev and Zachariah Gershon Astrakhan talking about how they formed their companies specializing in ultrasonics for biotech applications.

On Tuesday, Madison has Craig Atwood talking about the Biology of Aging, and Sunnyvale continues on their quantum salinity detector project.

On Wednesday, Oakland continues on their Open Insulin project, as well as furthering fun fermentations. Sunnyvale continues their fluorescence microscope project, and Vancouver has a discussion about your diet and your DNA.

On Thursday, Berlin has Margherita Pevere presenting and discussing her microbial cellulose artwork, Brooklyn has Franklin Abrams talking about intellectual property and its application to synthetic biology, Cambridge would like you to come help assemble their biomakespace, Denver has a miracle berry pot luck, Munich talks about their recent hackathon participation, Oakland and Sunnyvale collaborate on their bioprinter project.  Oakland is also kicking off a plant project. San Diego has Andrew Johnson speaking about the marine ecosystem of the Gulf of California.

On Friday, Sunnyvale has Mazyar Lotfalian and Michael Scroggins (and others) leading workshops on Citizen Science, Activism, and Art.

On Saturday, Austin is helping on a prosthetic hand-a-thon, Cambridge continues to need help with setting up their biomakespace, Oakland and Sunnyvale collaborate on their biological sun screen project, Seattle carries on an aquaponics workshop, Somerville has a family oriented Building with Biology event, with hands on learning activities and discussions, and  Vancouver begins a weekend workshop led by Ian Lee on Biohacking your Identity.

DIYbio events for the week of August 14th

Here are your DIYbio events for the week

On Sunday, Oakland continues their Biohack Academy with a lesson on bacterial transformation and DNA amplification, and their Open Insulin project, while Sunnyvale has teens teaching biotech to teens.

On Monday, Brooklyn starts their Biohacker Bootcamp, Cambridge has a discussion led by Fernan Federici and Chih-Chun Chen on the breadth of how to categorize synthetic biologists, and Oakland continues its Biohacking Academy with a lesson on designing experiments, as well continuing their Vegan Cheese project.

On TuesdayMadison shows how to extract DNA, (among other things), and Sunnyvale continues their Quantum Salinity Detector project.

On Wednesday, Oakland continues their Open Insulin project, as well as continuing their fun fermentations.

On Thursday, Camden will be burning some QR code onto light-sensitive bacteria, as well as discussing other things, Sunnyvale continues its bioprinter project, and Sydney has a panel discussion on The Global Biohack Revolution, featuring a panel consisting of Meow-Ludo, Andrew Gray, JJ Hastings, Oron Catts, and Ellen Jorgensen.

Finally, on Saturday, Baltimore continues its Build-a-Gene series taught by Lisa Scheifele, and Oakland and Sunnyvale continue their collaboration on an evolved bacterial sunscreen.
