Here are your DIYbio events for the remainder of the week. On Monday Brooklyn invites you to do some DNA barcoding, and it is the deadline to apply for a genomics and medical informatics hackathon happening in August in Bethesda. On Tuesday, Madison has an introductory meeting, and Sunnyvale continues work on their surface plasmon resonance quantum salinity detector. On Wednesday, Dublin has a talk/video on epigenetics, Columbus meets with Erin Monaco to discuss citizen science collaborations, Montreal meets to brainstorm before a hackathon, Oakland continues their fun fermentation work, as well as their Open Insulin project, and Sunnyvale continues building their fluorescing microscope. Also on Wednesday Dubrovnik starts their Science Underground Academy. On Thursday, Baltimore has a lesson on gel electrophoresis, Cambridge continues to plan their biomakespace, Denver carries out DNA isolation and sequencing practice while doing some amplification of the MTHFR gene, Hong Kong has an introductory talk about iGEM, Sunnyvale continues their bioprinter project, and Toronto continues their study of Herron & Freeman’s Evolutionary Analysis. On Friday, Baltimore has discussions about urban beekeeping and the bee microbiome, with mead makers, beekeepers, and Eli McComb, one Montreal group will be working on a hackathon, and another Montreal group will be doing a biohackathon. On Saturday, Sunnyvale conducts their metabolic engineering class.

On Sunday, Albany has Dr Elavarasi Joseph presenting and leading a discussion of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, Bethesda will be meeting in Reston, VA where Mana will demonstrate an EEG controlled sculpture and you can participate in various projects, and Oakland continues their Open Insulin project. On Tuesday Amsterdam continues on various plant based projects, Beijing has a synthetic biology conference, Brooklyn has a workshop providing the guide RNA design background and discussion points to prepare for hands-on CRISPR/Cas9 experimentation, and Sunnyvale continues with their quantum salinity detector project. On Wednesday, Cambridge will be part of an open science workshop and maker faire, Charlottesville will be carrying on a game of rating attractiveness through the isolation of sensory inputs, Los Angeles will be allowing you to help Lola Dompe or do your own bio-art project, Oakland will be continuing with their Open Insulin and fun fermentation projects, Somerville has a study group for a biology online study course , Sunnyvale continues work on their fluorescence microscope project, and Vancouver celebrates its one-year anniversary. On Thursday, Baltimore has a short workshop to develop pipette and plasma DNA isolation skills, Brooklyn has Dr David Putrino giving a talk on the Science of Human Performance, Cambridge plans for the creation of a biomakespace, Denver has a guest speaker Erika Stith talking about how biology will drive the future of space travel, Melbourne has guest presenter Dr Ken McGrath discussing DNA sequencing, Shanghai has a synthetic biology conference, Shenzhen will be playing around with smartphones and microscopes to create 3-D micro and macro images, Sunnyvale continues their bioprinting project, and Vancouver will be doing a workshop on restriction enzymes. On Friday, Austin is calling for citizen science projects in pursuit of a big prize, Baltimore has G. Thomas Caltagirone PhD giving a seminar on aptamer use in diagnostics and drug discovery, Shenzhen has a synthetic biology conference, and Sunnyvale has a brainstorming session on biotechnology and climate change. On Saturday, Baltimore is looking for high school iGEM team members, Bethesda will be at the USA National Maker Faire, and Oakland will be doing a workshop on molecular dynamics simulation and continuing on their project of hacking microfluidics for use in space.

On Monday, its the last day to register for the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) hackathon happening August 3-5, and Oakland together with Sunnyvale continue their work on Real Vegan Cheese. On Tuesday Amsterdam starts their collaborative project cycle, with an emphasis this month on plants. Also on Tuesday, Montreal has Daniel Modeulevsky discussing the use of apple cellulose as a biomaterial for organ scaffolds, and Sunnyvale continues their quantum salinity detector project. On Wednesday, Cambridge has a workshop on arduinos and sensors, Oakland continues their fun fermentation and Open Insulin projects, and Sunnyvale continues their florescence microscope project. On Thursday, Baltimore has a planning session to build a spectrometer for some purpose (let Ryan Hammond explain), Brooklyn has Alondra Nelson speaking about how DNA has wound itself into the heart of contemporary social issues around race, Somerville has Dr. Elissa Hobert presenting a paper about modified RNA (modRNA) and its applications for treating disease, Sunnyvale continues their bioprinter project, and Toronto has a study group of the book Evolutionary Analysis as well as discussion of a supporting paper. On Saturday Amsterdam has a workshop guided by Maja Smrekar, Spela Petric, Mary Tsang, and Byron Rich on extracting and deploying your own hormones, Oakland continues with their evolved bacterial sunscreen project, Seattle will be having a workshop where you can build a SpikerBox to monitor the action potential of neurons, and Vancouver is at a Mini Maker Faire
