DIYbio Events for the week beginning October 4

Here are your DIYbio events for the remainder of this week.  On Wednesday, Denver is attending a talk on protein biomarkers, San Diego is hosting a talk in La Jolla by Stephanie Nehasil on Marine Mammals as Ocean Sentinels, and Stockholm is having a conversation about biohacking and morphological freedom, featuring Kjell Asplund, Waldemar Ingdahl, Linus Petersson, and Hannes Sjöblad.  On Wednesday, Charlottesville holds a debriefing of Shaun Moshasha, as he relates his recent experience as an iGEM judge, Seattle has Lisa Ma bringing the latest research of diverse medical management systems from around the world, where strong beliefs in witch doctors, herbalists, and body healing is finding a space in the world of biotech, and Vancouver hosts Ian Johnson as he gives an informal talk about genetic techniques used in agriculture.  On Thursday, you can help Oakland make its Kickstarter prizes, and Toronoto will be discussing the book “The botany of desire: a plant’s-eye view of the world” by Michael Pollan. On Friday, Denver will be serving strawberry DNA cocktails at the Makers After Dark pre-party for the NOCO Maker Faire. On Saturday, Denver will be at the NoCo Mini Maker Faire (tickets can be had here),  Oakland will be working on a project to build an E.coli that produces its own sunscreen, and then use directed evolution to improve it. (Oakland is also providing means to access this remotely), and Sunnyvale will be hosting Alex Porter as he holds a class on brewing your own beer.

Here are your DIYbio events for the remainder of this week.  On Wednesday, Charlottesville is having a debriefing of Shaun Moshasha, who has returned from Biohacker Academy Partnerlab Bootcamp in Amsterdam.  Moscow is meeting to work on glowing organisms. On Thursday, San Diego has Callen Hyland leading a discussion on regenerative medicine, and Vancouver is having an open house featuring designed foods.  On Saturday, Bethesda has a biosafety and security discussion with FBI agent Ed You, who has been kept busy lately with the use of engineered yeast to create opiates. Ljubljana has a meeting to make some beer, and discuss their kickstarter project.  Seattle has Dr. Reitha Weeks leading a workshop on the Science of Lotions.  Sunnyvale has Connor Dickie & Justin Pahara, PhD, leading a workshop on doing assemblies to create colorful bacteria using an interesting method.

DIYbio events for the week beginning June 8

Here are your DIYbo events for this week.  On Tuesday, Montreal hosts lightning talks on DIYbio and a new company working on alternative production of THC and CBD, and  Oakland has a party, celebrating the end of their Kickstarter campaign.   On Wednesday, Berkeley is hosting an event, featuring the Ted Harrison High School Synthetic Biology (scroll down to read a bit about it) Demo and QA.  Oakland is giving an introduction to protein crystallography.  Oakland is also hosting a talk by Athena Lin on Herochromatin in Drosphila embryo.  On Thursday,  Oakland and Sunnyvale have been invited to San Francisco to an event where a museum transforms into a music venue.  On Friday, Oakland has a grand opening of their new mycology lab.  On Saturday Baltimore is having a session on chemical making with bacteria, David Martinez Mareno presents on Bioart in Berkeley, you can meet Berlin at a science event, Oakland is holding a DNA barcoding workshop and Seattle is holding an event on learning gel electrophoresis through the extraction of candy dyes.
