DIYbio events for the remainder of the week of September 11

Here are your DIYbio events for the remainder of the week.

On Monday Brooklyn begins their Biohacker Boot Camp series, as well their CRISPR/CAS9 course (a prerequisite for hands on lab work) taught by Oliver Medvedik and Ellen Jorgensen, while Tel Aviv has Abba Priev and Zachariah Gershon Astrakhan talking about how they formed their companies specializing in ultrasonics for biotech applications.

On Tuesday, Madison has Craig Atwood talking about the Biology of Aging, and Sunnyvale continues on their quantum salinity detector project.

On Wednesday, Oakland continues on their Open Insulin project, as well as furthering fun fermentations. Sunnyvale continues their fluorescence microscope project, and Vancouver has a discussion about your diet and your DNA.

On Thursday, Berlin has Margherita Pevere presenting and discussing her microbial cellulose artwork, Brooklyn has Franklin Abrams talking about intellectual property and its application to synthetic biology, Cambridge would like you to come help assemble their biomakespace, Denver has a miracle berry pot luck, Munich talks about their recent hackathon participation, Oakland and Sunnyvale collaborate on their bioprinter project.  Oakland is also kicking off a plant project. San Diego has Andrew Johnson speaking about the marine ecosystem of the Gulf of California.

On Friday, Sunnyvale has Mazyar Lotfalian and Michael Scroggins (and others) leading workshops on Citizen Science, Activism, and Art.

On Saturday, Austin is helping on a prosthetic hand-a-thon, Cambridge continues to need help with setting up their biomakespace, Oakland and Sunnyvale collaborate on their biological sun screen project, Seattle carries on an aquaponics workshop, Somerville has a family oriented Building with Biology event, with hands on learning activities and discussions, and  Vancouver begins a weekend workshop led by Ian Lee on Biohacking your Identity.

Here are your DIYbio events for the remainder of the week

On Tuesday, Brooklyn has their introductory CRISPR/Cas 9 course (a prerequisite for a laboratory course on applying CRISPR/ Cas 9) taught by Ellen Jorgensen and  Oliver Mendvedik and Sunnyvale continues their plant bio research and quantum salinity detector projects.

On Wednesday, Oakland continues their fun fermentation and Open Insulin projects, Sunnyvale continues their fluorescing microscope project, and Sydney is meeting with their local BIOMOD team.

On Thursday Baltimore has a short lab skills workshop on PCR and primer design, Buenos Aires has a meeting about color led by Ivana Tondato, Hong Kong has a yogurt making workshop, Oakland and Sunnyvale collaborate on a bioprinter project, Paris has a meeting introducing their residency program, and Toronto has a study group for Chapter 5 of Evolutionary Analysis.

On Friday, Berlin and Munich will be participating in a hackathon at Techfest Munich

Finally, on Saturday Baltimore has a birthday bash, Berlin will have an algae workshop, Brooklyn has a workshop on making fermented flavor breads like sourdough taught by Cheryl Paswater,  and the first of three sessions on design using life as a creative medium guided by Orkan Telhan

DIYbio for the week of August 21

Here are your DIYbio events for the week.

On Sunday,  Durham will have David Cole speaking about when to drop what you’re doing and seek a patent attorney, using the recent CRISPR patent dispute as an illustration, Melbourne will be locating their new biohackspace at a local hackspace, and Oakland will be continuing their Biohack Academy series with a workshop on enzyme digestion for cloning and gel electrophoresis, and continuing with their Open Insulin project.

On Monday, Oakland discusses projects on the intersection of Art and Science, Oslo hosts the UiO iGEM team, who will discuss their project, and there will be strawberry dna extraction.  Also on Monday, Madison will be participating in a local startup event.

On Tuesday, Kym Romano give a talk about the gut microbiome, and Sunnyvale continues their quantum salinity detector project.

On Wednesday, Bio-Academy – How to Grow Almost Anything directed by George Church begins, a 16 week very intensive course with hands-on work every week allowing YOU access to some of the latest biotech and synthetic biology ideas and the personalities behind them. PLEASE APPLY NOW.  Also on Wednesday, Ghent will be in Antwerp at a conference exploring life in a combined physical and digital world, with founder Winnie Poncelet as one of the guest speakers, and Oakland continues their Open Insulin project as well as furthering fun fermentation.

On Thursday, Baltimore has a brief workshop on restriction digestion of plasmid DNA, Brooklyn is at a New York City comedy club with Dr Rosemarie Perry speaking about the science of stress,  Ghent is in Antwerp on the second day of a conference, Oakland discusses the Art of Science, and the Science of Art, as well as building a bio 3d printer, and Sunnyvale continues their bioprinter project.

On Friday, Baltimore hosts astronomist and astrobiologist Alex Storrs as he talks about “Life, the Universe, and Everything”, and Ghent is at the final day of a conference in Antwerp.

Finally, on Saturday Baltimore continues with its Build-a-Gene workshop led by Lisa Scheifele, and Charlottesville has a family oriented  Building with Biology day.
